Isn’t all scripture meant to help us realize our full potential as humans to live more spiritually connected lives? Then how is it that scripture can be used to infringe on the potential of some in the name of protecting the status quo of others who have yet to realize their full potential?

Democracy? We’ll See!

Democracy is about free choices,
we know that’s true.
But what’s its value when choices
are dangerously few?
A democracy is only good
as the choices it presents.
Any democracy with bad choices
the public quickly resents.

Choices developed by an elite
that we can scarcely see
Undermines “democracy” as it turns it
into a plutocracy.
To make democracy “safe” for us
they have made it much less free.
Unless you have the cash to spare,
which is a bitter irony!

“Democracy” becomes the political cover
for those who control the state.
The power to convince us we’re still free
is a power only they regulate.
Assumed power is held by a small elite
with the means we can hardly contemplate.
But true power comes with the choice
to respect every soul’s fate.

If to See as God Sees

When you realize that God is not a Republican,
that He isn’t anti-gay,
that She loves every cell in your body
and has for you a more excellent way...

When you discover God is inclusive,
that these barriers are not His design,
that She transcends all illusions
and will help you leave these delusions behind...

When you open your heart to God’s inclusion,
see Hir masterful plan,
you will see Hir see inside of you
by looking past the image of mere woman or man.

Is Cultural Diversity on the Menu?

“Here,” insisted my wife as we dined at an upscale restaurant, “try the escargot a la carte. It’s delicious!”

“No thanks,” I resisted. “It’s late and I’m getting full.”

“Oh,” she shot back, “you just refuse to try anything if it doesn’t ‘sound’ American. What DO you have against cultural diversity anyways?”

For a moment I feared she might be right. But then I recalled what I ate earlier in the day and told her: “I had French toast for breakfast, Italian bread for lunch, followed by a German chocolate cake for dessert. That’s about all the cultural diversity I can take for one day.

All is Well

Roger’s illness is apparently quite accommodating to his partying lifestyle. The doctor told him to get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids. So he slept in till noon, got up to down a fifth of Jack Bean, then went back to bed.
